The Spanish Model UN Conference began as a final project in an advanced Spanish course at Bosque School in Albuquerque, New Mexico, in 2010. Since the program’s beginning, the intent has been to stimulate the dissemination of the Spanish language and culture in a relevant, authentic context.
The Spanish Model UN provides a unique opportunity to New Mexico teachers and students; there are few known examples of other Spanish-language versions in the U.S. Since its inception, the program has continued to expand to include a growing list of participants. Each year we welcome new schools, new classrooms, new teachers, and new students.
The event is organized annually in the spring by a committee of participating teachers. The following institutional sponsors support the event by providing financial and in-kind contributions: Instituto Cervantes of Albuquerque, National Hispanic Cultural Center, Spanish Resource Center of Albuquerque, Consulado de México de Albuquerque, and University of New Mexico Latin American and Iberian Institute.
